Tacho Waco

Got myself a set of used Defi Tacho and the old controller unit. Out with the old, in with the new. Have fun n enjoy the pics!

My Dream Header

That is a picture of my beloved dream that wont possiblly come true. The Hytech header is one of the worlds reknown header. And behind, cudling is THE Mr John Grudynski, the founder and maker of this hand made heavan. Mr John if ur reading this, I love ur work and would like to fit in those similar to B series header in my little monster. For Americans; this 4G92 Mitsu Mivec engine is similarly identical to the honda B-Series. And available only in 1600cc.

The uniqueness of this piece of art is the anti-reversion chambers, stepped primary pipe configuration, tri-y collectors, acoustical tuning, sequential cylinder pairing and non conventional pipe shapes. All of this will gain an extra 20-30hp!.. or around those figures I suppose.

Well, for this time being, I will be using a 'de-flanged' honda B18C 4-1 header mated with a custom made flange suited for my engine configuration.

Enjoy the pics!

No anti-reversion chambers ? :(

All near Done

Have a look at these velocity stacks. Their a bit long to make use of more midrange as this is going to be a daily driver. These pics were taken during Megasquirt tuning..

Do excuse them lousy headers, their the old ones from my old SOHC days. These headers with this setup gives you totally nothing in the low rpms. I'll be fitting in some custom ones really soon.

Teflon Head Gasket

Look what I got for my ITB intake, a piece of teflon gasket to prevent from heat soak. This piece is custom made from 5mm telfon sheet. Not that cheap. Enjoy the pics!!

Ace hardware's Heat Resistant Flat black finishes the valve cover beautifully!!

4 throttle (Cont'd) - The dream.

To make a dream come true is my biggest ambition. That dream is to implement 4throttle setup in my baby.. After research and reading and listening and asking,.. It is widely known that ITB's, or individual throttle bodies, in my case a 4cylinder engine, hence 4throttle bodies or short for 4throttle, loves high degree cams, high compression setups, high revs... meaning with my stock 4g92p bottom end and 4g93 head, its financially impossible for me to make this dream come true;
What i actually need is;

1) High Cams (possibly Kelford 272 or higher)
2) Ported and polished head
3) Low compression metal gasket (probably 0.4mm)
4) Rebuild bottom end (replace bearings and studs and at the same time might as well lighten and balance them)

Those are the things that I might be needing and getting them done will cost me a bomb. With much less amount of money i could opt for another solution , which is found by pure accident.

A visit to the local chopshop saw a floored (not flawed) 4g92 Mivec engine. Which is perfect and what I am in need of. Compare this to the list above;

1) Stock Mivec Cams in/ext 285/300 degrees
2) Already has a bigger port than my original head
3) Stock Compression ratio of 11:0
4) In standard form has a redline of 8250RPM.
5) Retaining the bottom end surely retains the stock balance.

all for the price of less than a 2nd hand kelford cam!!!. Plus, I could sell my old engine for half that.

Anyway Ill be needing most of my stuff from the old engine as the Mivec does only come with the complete head and block. Which means, starter, alternator, steering pump, A/C, pulleys, etc, will be retained. Now thats a lot of saving!

The first foreign thing I purchased is a set of Toyota's AE101 ITBs. I wont be needing the plenum though. Fabricating a new manifold to match the throttle bodies to intake ports is quite a task.

The new shopping list follows;
1) Aluminum manifold to be made (4throttle body to intake ports)
2) 4 Velocity Stacks, or Air Horns to be custom made, aluminum of course
3) 4g93T (GSR) 390cc Injectors + resistor pack
4) Intake gasket (Teflon)
5) Toyota Supra in-tank fuel pump
6) Items to complete the transplant - Cam sensor, Mitsu dual coil pack, plug lead.
7) Megasquirt Standalone ECU (will be using stock harness)

Heres another list when purchasing Megasquirt:

2 x GM Closed Element CLT / IAT Sensor with Connector
1 x MegaSquirt-I Programmable EFI System PCB3.0 - Kit w/ BLACK CASE
1 x MegaSquirt PCB3.0 - HeatSink only*
1 x VB921 Ignition Coil Driver

Megasquirt kit has a 2.5Bar MAP sensor , coil driver equipped. need an extra coil driver is to run wasted spark, dual coils.

So basicly, I am running the first Megasquirt with 1.6l 4G92 Mivec with ITB in the country!!!
Thats fun!!

4 throttle my ride

Pre 4throttle

Despite all the negative things people say about this project, I keep my self upbeat to achieve the impossible for most people. To start off, my ride is a 1595cc 4G92p originally SOHC turned DOHC thanks to the beautiful mitsu head I found laying around I cant remember where.

So I relocate the battery to the rear to accommodate the BMC (style) CAI open pod air filter, thanks to the great looks of carbon fibre and my car has actually reduced its weight by a couple of kilos!!!! Duhh but thats not the point, it goes tad faster, and cooler too.. and more efficient. Later fitted an RPW (style) 4-2-1 header and it keeps on pushing my butt to my seat! I'm impressed. with slightly bigger pipes and a not so good but not too bad rear muffler, I could easily win a traffic light drag with most standard 1.8 GTi's Hmm not to mention R3(maybe the driver isnt so good). Well just to not upset you guys, any other R3's are really fast out there. I just havent found one yet..

To list the mods this far,
1) Mitsu 4g93 Cylinder Head (not PNPd)
2) Battery Relocation to rear
3) BMC Style Open pod air filter with CAI, thats cold air intake
4) Steel Braided aircraft quality brake hose all around, DOT4 Fluid, Metal King Pads
5) RPW style 4-2-1 kickass Header, 2inch flexi-back pipe, catless, no midbox, S-flow muffler
6) 15inch alloys and 195/50 low quality rubbers.
7) Disconnected PCV to intake hose, breather used. (no OCT, yet)
8) Titan Coilovers (the biggest investment thus far) 6kg/4.5kg (front/rear linear)
9) Ultra racing struts (4point front tower/3 point rear)
10) Ultra caring fender bars (3point)
11) Integra seats, theyr cheap and comfy and at the same time keeps me from being thrown off..
12) RSM and SAFC II
13) Exedy Clutch (normal type)
14) Quick Release Steering Kit and those 16inch steering found laying around in chopshop.

15) Full front Mirage CA4A Conversion (big rhombus spotlight type), Mirage rear spoiler
